SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (August 31, 2016) – The Kitchen, Inc. has once again been awarded a substantial grant from the Veterans Administration under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. This year’s award totals $491,179.00.
The grant will provide temporary financial assistance for rent payments, utility payments, security deposits and moving costs to homeless and at-risk veterans and their families. The Kitchen, Inc. through its Home at Last program will be able to assist approximately 150 households in Greene, Christian and Webster counties.
Since it began in October 2013, The Kitchen, Inc.’s Home at Last – Supportive Services for Veteran Families program has served 348 veteran households. Home at Last provides eligible Veteran families with outreach, case management, and assistance in obtaining benefits. The focus of SSVF is housing stabilization; using temporary financial assistance and/or services as a bridge to long-term stability.
There were seven Missouri nonprofits that received funding from the SSVF totaling more than $5.1 million in assistance to the state. These nonprofits serve the St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia and Clinton communities as well as here in the Springfield area.
More than $300 Million in grants was awarded this week to 275 community agencies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The money will assist approximately 120,000 homeless and at-risk veterans and their families.
