A home means having a place to rest, prepare a meal, and spend time with the people you love. It also provides a foundation for planning what comes next. For veterans facing homelessness, finding that stability can feel overwhelming.
At The Kitchen, Inc., our Home at Last team works alongside veterans to help prevent homelessness, find housing, and maintain stable housing. Every veteran comes to us with different experiences, needs, and goals. Our team takes the time to understand their circumstances and help them take their next steps.
A personal connection to the work
For John, a Home at Last case manager, that work has a personal meaning.

“As a veteran myself, I feel like I can relate to the veterans we serve. I love helping people meet their immediate needs and build a strong foundation for their futures.”
That connection is an important part of building trust. Asking for help can be difficult, especially when someone is worried about where they will sleep or how they will provide for their family. Having someone who listens and understands can make it easier to begin.
John’s words reflect the purpose behind Home at Last: helping veterans address the challenges they face today while working toward lasting stability.
Support through each step
For some veterans, our work begins when they are at risk of losing their housing. For others, it can begin after years of living on the streets or in unstable, unsafe housing.
Our team helps veterans work through their housing needs, connect with resources, and address challenges along the way. That support continues after a move. Settling into a home is a significant milestone, and maintaining it can bring new questions and responsibilities. Our team is there to help veterans every step of the way.
Throughout that process, veterans have their own goals for what comes next. Having stable housing gives them a place from which to work toward those goals, whether that means focusing on employment, caring for their health, or providing consistency for their children.
Housing veterans, supporting families
So far in 2026, Home at Last has helped house 131 veterans. Including the family members sharing those homes, that represents 268 people with a place to call home.
Those numbers help show how far this work reaches. When a veteran finds housing, the impact can extend to a spouse, children, and other family members. A home can mean a place for children to do homework, a kitchen where meals can be shared, and the relief of knowing where everyone will sleep that night.

This Homelessness Awareness Month, we are sharing the work of Home at Last and the people who make it possible. We are grateful for our team’s commitment and for a community that helps us support veterans and their families.
